Background

At the Grimaldi Maritime Terminal in the Port of Barcelona, ​​some cargo lines carry non-standard or incorrectly declared dimensions. Errors in estimating these dimensions lead to mistakes in the planning of the ferry’s internal storage, and lower revenues for transported goods. In conclusion, the lack of automation and control points makes traceability and monitoring difficult.

This project was born as a new use case after the Clever-Sense Residus project, subsidized by “Puertos del Estado” within Ports 4.0, with the collaboration of the Barcelona Port Authority and Go Clever.

Description

The scope of the project has been to test a solution for remote detection and automatic calculation of vehicle and cargo dimensions at the access gate of the Grimaldi terminal in Barcelona.

GoClever has proposed a system that integrates LIDAR (Laser Scanner) technology for measurement precise geometric representation of vehicles in real time; and intelligent cloud computing for immediate estimation of spatial dimensions. It also integrates with existing systems.

Conclusions

  • Maximum control of the declared load (declared vs. actual for all load): allows to accurately measure the load to be transported (compared to all the load that passes through the access).
  • Characterization also contributes to the processes of recording evidence and checking specific load models.
